Bob the Builder, Buzz Lightyear, Thomas Tank Engine and My Jedi Knights

I have all boys. There are no pink ribbons, no barbie dolls, and no baby carriages for me. Instead I have learned all about Bob the Builder..."Can we do it? Yes we CAN!" who lives in a small house that frankly no woman would be satisfied with. There are barely curtains on the windows, and no crown moulding, no base boards, and frankly for a stone mason...no beautiful stone anything. Which maybe why Wendy is his friend and not his wife. My boys NEVER noticed all this. They were only concerned with the construction vehicles and using a hammer on their brother. And just as I started to get the hang of Bob along came Buzz and Thomas.

Buzz Lightyear I can understand. I mean who DOESN'T want to fly? Why he has to blow everything up with that laser of his I will never understand. But I have learned that, with boys, if isn't fun unless it is loud, crashes, blows up, or destroys with its laser/gun/light saber what ever. And if it does ALL of those things at the same time? Heaven for boys.

Thomas Tank engine was always crashing thought something to save someone or because one or the other engines didn't listen to instructions. I came to really love Thomas and all his engine friends. Sir Topam Hat always had the morality lesson, Thomas always sharing and being friendly but ALAS that too ended and The Star Wars Years began.

I am still in the midst of the Star Wars years as I write this. My two Jedi Knights have taken over the Family Room to build star bases from which they can attack or be attacked. I have been informed that their rooms are too small for the planets they need.  So we have cordoned off a section of Family Room that has now become a rebel base. One of my knights informed me the other day that he "accidently" bought a girl action figure and he asked if I could play action figures with him since he had this girl that no one wanted. I realized that action figures must never sleep in warm beds, wear fresh clothing, or eat home cooked meals because if they did they would  have LEARNED all that from MOM. A GIRL!!!! When my action figure asked where the mess hall was she was informed that they ate from tubes so there was no cooking needed. Of course I think the boys were just avoiding doing dishes. I mean who wants to eat from a tube? I learned during my play that the rebel base has no beds, no mess hall, and no bathrooms. So I decided to mess with my kids mind a little and asked where the spas was? I told him my figure needed a mani pedi. My kid looked at me like I had grown two heads. Then I asked where the mall was. At this point he decided that maybe mom was  a lost cause. But he wasn't willing to give up on my education just yet. He told me my figure could get on the "tank" an go searching in the outlying wilderness for a mall. Of course wilderness means you must have guns so I had to go with some boy action figures. About this time his brother finished his home work so big brother decided little brother was more fun than mom and I was allowed to go back to earth.

The truth is all the imagination that goes into their pretend games really impresses me. Sometimes I think wow they are going to create something wonderful when they grow up. Then they blow up the base and I realize that if they do create something it will probably have to explode.
