The Queen Mary- the Love Queen

I talk about how much I love the Queen Mary all the time. I have been enthralled by her even before I married Agent Daddy in the Royal Chapel.  Let me tell you a little history about the Queen Mary. The Queen was build by the Cunard Line back in 1936. She sailed the Atlantic route from New York to England for 31 years until 1967 when she was sold to the City of Long Beach, CA. She was then operated as a Hotel and attraction until today.

I may have mentioned a time or two about how I am not from California. So when I moved to Southern California to go to College there were many attractions for me to explore. Of course Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm were there, and I went, but I was fascinated with old Hollywood. I wanted to got to Graumans Chinese Theater, and the Hollywood sign. Then I saw the Queen. I was enraptured. I stepped onto her decks back in 1984 and still today I am in love. Imagine being able to walk where the BOTH Gershwin Brothers walked, and experience some of the best examples of Odean Art Deco anywhere. But beyond the history, there is a magic that captures you.

The Queens Salon, where Agent Daddy and I had our reception, is lit by 5 foot tall alabaster urns that glow with a warm light that makes you look beautiful. In fact after the Queen was caught in a full mid Atlantic Hurricane. People were thrown from their beds and sick as dongs. The Ship was actually met by ambulances when it got into harbor. After that all of the mirrors on the ship were replaced with peach tinted mirrors and the lights. All give off a peach glow so that sea sick passengers would look better when they saw themselves thus they might actually feel better. But as a Bride 20 years ago I loved knowing that the lighting would make me look good on my wedding day.

Then there is the Veranda Grill. This was designed in its entirety by Doris Zinkesein. And showcases her famous mural "Entertainment".

Doris Zinkesein
The Mural seen here and the etched glass and all of the light fixture were rescued from storage when they began restoring the Queen to her Original glory after the Disney Corporation stripped her and used her mercilessly all through the 1980's. I can not tell you how happy it makes me every time I return and see yet another area restored. By the way this amazing space is available for parties as well.

I cannot talk about the Queen without talking about the Observation Bar. It is an Art Deco Bar like none other. If you are aboard and you do not have cocktails, or Mock tails here you have missed the spirit of this ship. This is where you would hob nob with all the other passengers as you glided across the Atlantic.

And there is so much more to see and do but I don't want to spoil the wonder for you. You have to experience the Tea room and Winstons for yourself.
This Piano on the Queen Mary was played by Cole Porter and Both Gershwin Brothers.
