Family Fun Doesn't Have To Cost An Arm And A Leg

I live in Southern California. We have some of the best attractions in the world. I think only Orlando FL had more attraction than we do. But Theme parks can get expensive and really they aren't special if you do them every day.  So here are some ideas for having fun as a family that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Home of the brave, land of the free day out

Fact: kids are expensive. Whether they’re petitioning for the latest games console, pointless fad (loom bands, anyone?) or a top-of-the-line mountain bike,
spending money goes with the territory when you have a child. At least days out can be cheap and fun. Just try one of the following on your little money-pits, and see if they can tell the difference between free and extortionate.

Cut price delight in San Fran

Pier 39 is a great base for some fun, family oriented activities in San Francisco. The Aquarium of the Bay at Fisherman’s Wharf offers family discounts, especially for those who buy their tickets online. Take in some free juggling, comedy or magic tricks at the outdoor stage, or window shop the many colorful, quirky shops lining the pier.

A day for free in NYC

Your bite at the big apple doesn't have to cause financial indigestion; there are plenty of cheap activities for kids in this iconic city. Many of its most iconic museums have designated days of free entry; the NY Hall of Science, Children’s Museum of Manhattan and Brooklyn Children’s Museum all operate under such terms. Film screenings are always free for children under 16 at the Museum of Modern Art, as is Staten Island Zoo on Wednesdays after 2pm.

Save your beans in New Orleans

Music is fun for all ages, and in Louisiana there is always a soapbox or a banjo being strummed. Tap your toes to some street music, or if you’re feeling lively, show your appreciation by dancing. Cram your face with beignets, the inexpensive French doughnut that’s heavy on the waistline but light on your wallet, then browse the sinister potions at the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum.

You don’t need to spend a lot to impress the kids, just to take them somewhere that will spark their curiosity and ignite their imaginations. A little research goes a long way, and weighing up the attractions before you leave the house will guarantee an unforgettable day out.
