When you're a mother, the most important thing is your children and their welfare. That means that you could end up spending all your income on your little ones, leaving little cash to treat yourself. Just because you have children, that doesn't mean that you can't be fashionable. Creating stunning and stylish outfits is easy with a little know-how. Taking the time to treat yourself to a new look is vital to your well-being. Sometimes mothers lose their identity. They are too wrapped up in being parents that they forget that they are people too. If cash is tight, but you still want to look great, it is possible. Here
is a guide to creating an incredible outfit on a budget.
is a guide to creating an incredible outfit on a budget.
Buy stable fashion pieces
When you don't have a lot of money to spend on your clothing, you need to be picky about what you buy. Buying fashion pieces that aren't well-made will mean that you have to spend more money on clothing in the long run. When something looks cheap, the chances are it is cheap. Instead, opt for buying stable fashion pieces. For example, every woman needs the perfect pair of heels. Rather than wasting you money on a range of cheap and tacky fashion heels, invest in a pair of quality heels that you can wear with any outfit.
Mend old clothes
Our generation is not too great at mending things. In the past, our parents (and their parents) would mend clothing when it broke. In the modern world, everything is disposable. That means that we often throw clothing out, instead of trying to salvage it. When something breaks, try and mend it before you throw it out. If you get a hole in an old top, for example, sew a patch onto the top to cover the hole. The patch will give the top a bohemian look and will save you from buying another one.
Look for designer discounts
Women's designer clothing shouldn't be expensive. When you buy designer pieces, you are investing in a piece of clothing that will last you a lifetime. Look for discount stores online where you can find designer pieces. Remember, the one main benefit of buying designer clothing, is that you can be sure it is a quality piece. That means that you won't need to replace the piece in the future.
Read fashion blogs
If you want to stay fashionable now that you are a mommy, you're going to need to work at it. You are bound to spend more time watching children's TV and reading kid's books than reading about fashion. Dedicate a small amount of time every week to catch up with some fashion news. Many fashion blogs will give you insider knowledge about sales and discount stores. That means that you could find some fantastic deals when you read online blogs. Choose a favorite blog and follow it online. Doing so will mean that you know all about the latest trends and save money when you buy clothing online.
Share clothes with your friends
If you have friends that are about the same clothing size as you, you can save money by sharing clothes. Few people think to share their clothing with their friends. Doing so means that you have twice as many outfits to choose from with little fuss. Invite your friends over for a clothes swapping party. Everybody needs to bring something they don't mind swapping. After the party everybody will walk away with a new piece of clothing without having spent a dime. Ask your friends whether they want to try this idea. You might find that they love the idea.
Those are all great tips. I have a good friend that I share clothes with and she has AWESOME taste :)
ReplyDeleteExactly the kind of friend you want to have.
DeleteI think mending old clothes can save you a lot. You can also improvise here.
ReplyDeleteMending has lost favor over the past few years. I think knowing how to fix a hem, or sew a button can literally save you hundreds of dollars over time.
DeleteIf you are good with a sewing machine you can also switch up your wardrobe by adding trim or changing all the buttons.
DeleteThese are great tips. And my husband is always on me about mending old clothes.
ReplyDeleteYOur husband is smart. And probably frugal like mine.
DeleteI think that buying in thrift stores is a great way to find pieces. I tend to stick to classics so they last a long time.
ReplyDeleteI discovered thrift stores in my 20's. I still love them.
DeleteI wish I knew how to mend clothes! I am horrible at it and end up making it worse.
ReplyDeleteYou can take a class or find an elderly woman who is lonely and ask her to teach you. Most of the older generation was taught how to mend.
DeleteI always read fashion magazines and look at models online but I guess I am not as artistic and I only have a few styles I really like. You make me think of making a re-do about how I dress, which I think is nice.
ReplyDeleteAlways good to shake up your wardrobe a little.
DeleteI mix some thrift with new stuff, but I usually go to a Platos closet. Unfortunately, that also means I have to travel about an hour as the thrift stores out here aren't very trendy at all. lol
ReplyDeleteTry online. Craig s list and ebay often have gently used clothes for a good price.
DeleteI'm always on a budget because I anticipate the future expenses that I'll have. Given this, mixing and matching my clothing and sharing them with my sister becomes a more challenging task. Which fashion blogs do you recommend for women?
ReplyDeleteFashion is so personal. It is an expression of your personal style. So recommending my style to you would be unfair to you and the other fashion blogger. Check out some of my older fashion Friday posts. they are written by a stylist, Brandon Sapin. they will help you find your own style.
DeleteI am always scouring consignment shops. Great deals!
ReplyDeleteConsignment is awesome. Especially for getting rid of the stuff you bought but then didn't like.
DeleteThanks for sharing the tips. I am not a fan of branded clothes/apparel, what matters to me is the comfort I get from wearing them. :)
ReplyDeleteI like to wear stuff no one else has. I often modify my clothes with trim or change the buttons. It is an easy way to define your style while not breaking the bank with "brand" names.
DeleteI love recycling my clothing. I just went into my mom's closet and got a couple of items out of their and I get compliments all the tip. Thanks for talking about an issue, that some women finds it hard to do. Great tips.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Recycle, up cycle. It all is great.
Deletethanks for the tips - I love those guides - perfect!
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit. Thanks for sharing these tips.
ReplyDeleteI do too. It can be modified if it is too risky for someone by just adding boots instead of stockings.
DeleteI'm definitely on a budget. Seems like I'm always wearing the same thing. Great post.
ReplyDeleteWe often forget to budget for clothes. A good rule of thumb is to take half of what you spend eating out each pay check and put it aside for clothes. YOu can still go out and still have a great wardrobe.
DeleteSharing with friends is definitely a great way to get outfits for free! I love to borrow shirts from my one girl friend who loves to shop and wears my size :)
ReplyDeleteGood to have friends your own size.
DeleteThank you for all the great fashion tips. I need all the help I can get to stay fashionable. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a budget fashionista! I have always love scouring the clearance racks, as well as going to yard sales and thrift stores. I have found some amazing designer brands for way, way less that way! In fact, I found a $400+ wedding dress that was just like new for just $15 at a thrift store. They didn't realize it was a high end brand. :)
ReplyDeleteI found a Coach purse for $5 one at a thrift store.
DeleteThanks for all of the tips! I noticed that after three kids, I got stuck in a rut of comfy clothes that just aren't fashionable. Time to change that!
ReplyDeleteIt happens to all of us. One day you realize you haven't worn a pair of pants with out elsastic and 5 years and you cringe. You can get your sexy back.
DeleteGreat tips for incredible outfits on a budget. I usually shop at thrift stores were you can get brand names for cheap in great condition. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThrift stores are the Bomb
DeleteThese are all great tips! I sometimes go thrift shopping but I think it is important to have a good selection of always in style pieces too a only a few trendy at the moment outfits. Trendy at the moments don't last long.
ReplyDeleteClassic piece will get you so far. One or two trendy purses or shoes won't breat the bank
DeleteI hit up wholesale outlet factories. You can get great outfits at a fraction of the cost!
ReplyDeleteOutlet stoes are a GREAT resource too.
DeleteAs an almost single mom of 3 boys (special needs) - I can admit, I totally lost my identity. I appreciate these tips to spruce up on a budget, I also look forward to your future posts :)
ReplyDeleteYou deserve to feel good. I know that the kids always come first. If you are careful you can get some steals that will last and make you look fabulous...Or you can marry a rich guy lol. That works too.
DeleteThese are amazing ideas! I will def be getting my wardrobe together, thanks!
ReplyDeleteDesigner discounts are an amazing idea. I also like to take summer clothes and wearing them in the winter by layering :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great way to get longer wear out of each item.
DeleteDesigner discounts are fabulous!! We find great ones at century 21, and tjmaxx.
ReplyDeleteThese are all great ideas Looking glamorous doesn't have to be expensive!
