Lace And Glitter And Sequins...OH MY!

As we all know the holidays are among us, whether you celebrate Christmas, Kwanza or Hanukkah the one holiday that follows all of these is New Years.  Last week I promised you a New Year’s survival guide, so here it goes!  I’m here to review some of the top hottest trends for this New Year’s.

Remember to figure out what dresses fit your body shape the best refer to the Fit Guide from my previous blog.

Trends

Lace:  Lace is a HUGE trend this holiday season, I’ve seen it on everything from shorts to full on dresses made entirely out of it.  I’ve even seen some beautiful overlays on top of wool or suited dresses.  This trend is a great trend to achieve a fashion forward look minus the gaudy.  Depending on the cut you may be able to achieve a more conservative look for say business or family parties.  CAUTION! The one thing I always remind my client is that if you are going to wear jewelry with a lace ANYTHING beware of any kind of crystal or stud.  The last thing you want to do is wear a crystal bracelet only then to lay it against your side and have the stone completely snag your dress.  Stick to bangles or cuffs on the arm and do a crystal chandeliering (Chandelier Earring) or cocktail ring.  Also be mindful or the texture on your purse and shoes, keep those muted.  You don’t want to have to many textures going on at once!

Sequins:  Sequins come around every year.  And I only have a couple of major qualms about this style.  You have to be extremely CAREFUL with the placement of the sequins.  It they are placed wrong sequins can in fact make you look larger in certain area, the way they are not only fabricated but the way the light hits them as well.  Also don’t be afraid to go down a size in garments that are heavily sequined.  The sequins are not stretchable so the do tend to make a garment larger in its “sizing”.  Accessories if you decide to go with a sequined dress?  Very minimal and simple!  Do not overdo it.  The dress itself is already a statement piece.  Keep with a matte purse and shoes and simple accessories.

White:  White is making a comeback this holiday season and I’ll only say two words:  Cranberry Vodka.  That’s right, if you are out in a white dress at a bar or venue that serves alcohol Cranberry Vodka will be your WORSE nightmare.  One drop on the dress and it’s extremely noticeable.  My solution to this problem is to where this color to a very nice dinner or small get together at a house or venue.  Be wary large crowds = stains!

Mixed Textures:  I’ve seen a lot of dresses coming out with mixed textures.  Silk and sequins.  Lace and leather.  I feel that these are great options to have and wear out, they are fun pieces and you’ll probably a garner a lot of compliments with the dress.  Just make sure that you aren’t going to overboard with it.  Mixed textured dresses should often be monochromatic.  Don’t wear a dress that has a dark green leather with bright yellow lace.  It’s going to be an eyesore.  Gun for black and style it up with some pops of color in the accessories!

Well there are your survival tips this season for New Year’s Dresses.  I’ll give you the lowdown on shoes next week!  And remember mommies, stay FABULOUS!
