The awesome people over at NuviaCafe.com asked me to try their incredible healthy gourmet coffee. Since coffee is a lot like shoes, one size in no way fits all, I decided to have a bunch of people try it and give me their feed back on how it tastes.
Before I tell you what everyone said about the taste let me tel you about what is in this coffee.
Nuvia is Sumatran Arabica coffee. It is infused with a trifecta of ingredients; the extracts of 100% certified organic Ganoderma,African Mango
Seed and Pomegranate. The Sumatran coffee beans are roasted to
perfection. Ganoderma, African Mango and Pomegranate are renown in recent clinical studies .
Ganoderma shows promise in reducingcholesterol levels and easing allergy-related inflammation
of the airways, according to preliminary evidence from animal-based
studies. Here's a look at more of the science behind ganoderma's
health-enhancing effects.
1) Cancer and the Immune System
Often used as an immune stimulant by people with cancer (as well as HIV), ganoderma has been shown to strengthen immunity as well as combat cancer-cell proliferation. In a 2003 study of 34 people with advanced-stage cancer, for instance, taking ganoderma in supplement form three times daily for 12 weeks led to a significant increase in T-cells (known to play a central role in immune defense).
Lab tests on breast cancer cells, meanwhile, found that combining extracts of ganoderma and green tea heightened the mushroom's ability to slow cancer-cell growth.
2) Antioxidant Benefits
Several small studies have suggested that regular use of ganoderma supplements may increase your levels of antioxidants, compounds thought to protect against disease and aging.
3) Relief of Urinary Tract Symptoms
In a 2008 study of 88 men with urinary tract symptoms, researchers found that ganoderma was significantly superior to placebo in providing symptom relief.
African Mango seed seems to have been shown to have some amazing health benefits. One study result suggested that the African mango's soluble fiber content helps to slow digestion and absorption of dietary sugar. The fiber also binds to bile acids in the intestinal tract and helps to carry it out of the body, forcing the body to convert more cholesterol into bile acids and thus helping withcholesterol levels.
Pomegrantes are known for several health benefits.
1)Antioxidants. These are vitamins and enzymes known for keeping low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol from oxidizing and causing atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries. Organic pomegranate seeds act a lot like aspirin, keeping blood platelets from sticking together and forming dangerous blood clots. Antioxidants also buffer the effects of free radical damage to your cells caused by oxidation.
2) Free radicals are produced by functions within the body and elements outside the body, such as radiation from the sun. You can’t stop free radical occurrence and oxidation but you can consume foods that help neutralize their potential damage.
Research also shows that eating organic pomegranate seeds and drinking pomegranate juice can increase oxygen levels to the heart. Other studies reveal that, over time, organic pomegranates might help combat erectile dysfunction. This super fruit might also reduce the inflammation of arthritis by slowing down the enzymes that break down cartilage.
With all that good stuff in it how does it taste? I had Agent Daddy try it. He usually drinks his coffee black and strong. He said the the coffee was wonderfully robust and had no bitterness. He was happy to continue drinking it when he found out about the cholesterol benefits. I also shared a sample with my choir director. Here is what he had to say "I tried the instant coffee this morning.
I don't usually drink hot coffee, so this would have had to be something really amazing for me to want to purchase. I do like the healthy benefits it offers, just wish it could taste like a iced mocha frapp! :)."
And I also gave it to one of my fellow choir members that is female. Her take?
I don't actually drink coffee but with all the healthy benefits I would certainly consider tying to change that.
So was this FAB or FAD? I say FAB! With so many coffee drinkers out there having a "healthy" coffee that is instant sound like a winner to me.

"Preparation -
Cup 1 – 1 pkt + 8 oz water + 1 tblsp of Hazelnut flavored creamer
Cup 2 – 1 pkt + 10 oz water + 1 tblsp of French Vanilla flavored creamer
Feedback – very bold & strong flavor. As you can see I had to add more water the 2nd time I tried it. It’s so strong that some may taste a bitter accent. I thought that the coffee tasted better over time. That is, the first sip is not as good as the last. As the coffee “marinated” it developed a better taste.
Conclusion – I would purchase, but would appreciate a “warning” re:the bold, strong flavor. Also, the average cup of coffee takes 6 oz of water, this one tasted best w/10 oz!"

Coffee is one of those "drugs" I allow myself to indulge in. For me the benefits are definitely worth it! :)
