When my kids were little I was terrorized by this children's rhyme. What kind of a sick mind teaches kids to sing "Your house is on fire and your children are alone."? But every time I left the house I would hear this rhyme in my head until I was back with them. Now they are in school. You would think I would feel better about them being away from me but you would be wrong.
I have boys. My boys have come home from school with a fractured foot, a bee sting, cracked rib, and a scab covering half of one boys face. The scab was so disturbing that one of the other moms called me to ask about it because her son was so traumatized by the sight of it. My son? "I'm OKAY MOM. Stop freaking out." The school would sometimes call me sometimes not. I don't know if they spin a wheel to decide whether or not to call me but it is kinda hit or miss.
We have rarely left town without the boys for fear that something would happen while we were away and we wouldn't know about it. So when I was approached to try out FamAlert I was pretty excited. We all leave emergency numbers, at the school, with the baby sitter, our parents etc, but what if there was a way to use technology to increase child safety? I had the kids memorize the emergency number. It was pretty easy. Each of the telephone numbers are designated as voice only or voice and text. My parents and Agent Daddy's don't text so I let FamAlert know that. But they do have email, which we also put down. FamAlert verifies the numbers and or email accounts and you are off to the races.
