The Dead Guy Chapter 11

I went to my room and closed the door. I kept myself from banging my head on the door, but just barely. All this time I had been wrong and Drew had been telling the truth. I undressed and got my pj's on as if I were on auto pilot. I got into bed and stared at the ceiling. I had made a mess and I did not even know where to begin to clean it up. So I stared... and stared ...and stared. I am not sure how long I did that but eventually I heard a knock on my door. "Come in" I called. I propped myself up on my elbows so I could see who was coming in. First Dylan came in then Dash right behind. They plopped themselves onto my bed. Dash at the foot and Dylan next to me. I said nothing. What could I say?

" I love you mom." Dylan said lying his head on my shoulder. "Me too" Dash said grabbing and shaking my foot. I started to cry.
"Dad had this planned for a while," Dash started
"Then we found the dead guy" Dylan interupted
"and we decided to wait, but then tonight you went on a DATE!" Dash finished up.
"Why would you do that?" Dylan inquired.
"I don't know. He asked, I am lonely...I wanted to get over your dad."
"But dad didn't do ANYTHING!" They both said raising their voices.
"Well I know that now."
"Why didn't you believe him?"
"I didn't want to be a stupid woman. The woman who overlooks all her husband infidelities."
"But he wasn't unfaithful. AND he continued to be faithful even after you divorced him."
" I know. It's complicated. I was unwilling to give him the benefit of the doubt because I didn't want to look stupid. And I do anyway."
Dylan leaned over and hugged me. " Are you going to get back together with Dad." Dash asked.
"I don't know that he will still want to after all this."
Both boys got up and moved to the door, Dash turned and looked at me "Do you really think he would have done all this if he wasn't interested in getting you back." He didn't wait for an answer. He just left and pulled the door closed after him.
I lay back and commenced staring at the ceiling again. Maybe the answer would appear there. I certainly didn't have any answers.

I woke the next morning with no epiphany happening in my sleep. I was still in love with my husband. My heart still felt broken some how. And I had another man pursuing me that I really liked. I called my hair dresser. No one can comb through the crap of my life like Shawna. And she makes me look good too. I needed to look good. LOOK GOOD FEEL GOOD. I knew it was true and I needed to get over this whole perplexing business with Drew.

Shawna, the miracle worker therapist said she had an opening at 2 pm. all I had to do was get thought the bulk of the day and then I would have some answers. But my life doesn't work that way. I got to my office, and had just gotten settled, when there was a call from the whore...I mean woman in question. The Bitch, I mean woman who started this whole mess.
"Tony said I should call you and apologize." She said
"Tony?" I asked
"Tony. good looking Italian guy, wears a diamond pinky ring?"
"TONY." I recalled form last night. I already liked his wife. A LOT. Maybe I should have gone and beaten the whore, I mean Susan up like she did.
"He mentioned that he met you last night and wanted me to clear up any misunderstanding there might have been about what I told you about Drew and I."
"You told me you were boffing my husband and that he wanted a divorce. What part didn't I understand?"
"Well I may have exaggerated the extent of our affair."
"Exaggerated? Either he stuck his slong in you or he did not."
"He did not. I thought if you two broke up he might change his mind about me, but he did not."
"Is Tony with you right now?"
"No. But he made it clear he would now if I didn't tell you the truth."
"I see. Anything else you need to confess?"
"No. I think that covers it."
"Well goodbye then. Don't let me ever see you near my husband again or I will take a page from Tony's wife's book and kick your ass." She hung up. Rude bitch. Didn't even say goodbye. I smiled. I like that Tony guy. He is a bag of trouble, but I like him.

I went to work on some financials that Drew's office had sent over. As always I lost track of time and worked right through lunch. My secretary came in and reminded me of my appointment with Shawna. I grabbed my purse and headed off to my therapist/hairdresser. I was already excited to tell her about everything that had happened. Now if she could just help me not be mad at Drew and lose Thad without hurting him I would be set.

Shawna was ready when I walked in. She was just escorting out her previous appointment and she hugged me and then steered me to her chair. "What are we doing today?" Shawan asked as she pumped up the chair in preparation for working her magic. Shawna is a 6'3' amazonian beauty with dark hair and blue eyes. If she wasn't so tall I would refer to her as my fairy god mother, weaving beauty out of the mess that usually is me.
"You are fixing my life." I replied looking at her in the mirror.
"Sorry sweetie, we only have an hour." She laughed
"Ok how about a trim and style?"
"We can do that. Now tell me your troubles and we will see what we can do."
"Where do I start? I just found out that Drew did not cheat on me."
"Honey everyone but you knew that. Tell me something new."
"That bitch, whore, slut, Susan called me and told me that it never happened. After she was 'encouraged' by a guy I think is mobbed up."
"Okay now that sounds interesting. Who is the gentleman in question and why would he 'encourge' that home wrecker to fess up?" She led me to the sinks and started lathering up my hair.
" I guess I need to go further back. Last night I went on a date with officer Yum."
"And is he?"
'Yes. But it gets even more interesting. When I got home Drew and the boys were waiting for me on the porch. Officer Yum kissed me right in front of all of them."
"You are kidding!" She rinsed and added conditioner.
"Then when I got into the house there were four men in my living room. Each with a tale of how Susan had tried to ruin their lives. Tony, the mob guy, was one of them. Tony likes me. He kissed my hand"
"I am sure Drew loved that."
"Yeah, he wasn't so happy to watch two men kiss me good night. Any way Tony is the one who 'encouraged" Susan to call me and fees up."
"What did you do when all these men told you their story?" She asked as she finished rinsing the conditioner out and wrapped my head in a towel. I stood and headed back to her station.
"I said nothing. You know I hate being wrong. and then Drew kissed me and I ran to my room and closed the door."
"Are you telling me, girlfriend, that you were kissed by three men in one night? No wonder you need me to fix your life."
"What am I going to do? I have decide what I am going to do about Drew and Officer Yum."
"What about Tony?" She asked as she prepared to trim my hair.
"Tony is married. besides I think he was just being nice."
"Yeah you bring out the 'nice" in men alright. " We were silent for a few minutes. "So about Drew."
"If that tramp hadn't lied to me I never would have divorced him. You know I adored him. But now I am divorced and my heart was broken for so long, even though I KNOW he didn't cheat I have a hard time trusting him."
"That really isn't fair to him. And Officer Yum? Are you gonna just string him along or are you gonna hook him up with a hair dresser? You know just to let him down easy." She smiled.
"You interested?"
"Are you kidding me? Just finding a single guy  in this town is hard enough but one that is taller than me? Girl, you know I am interested."
"So I guess I need to just get over it all? The last three years of my life were just a horrible nightmare? And now I get to wake up."

"Now you get to decide if you want the nightmare to end." She said pulling out the hair dryer to style my hair.
I shook my head. "I just don't know what to do."
"Yes you do. I will make you fabulous and you go find Drew. Don't make it too easy on him. Men like to chase. And then you send Officer Yum over here. I will make sure he never misses you." She winked. This is why she is my therapist. She can fix anything.
