When I was pregnant with Airborne I got sick with your
typical head cold. But I was pregnant and so I suffered. My nose ran, I had
aches and cough and I suffered. I didn’t want to take anything over the counter
because there was nothing that said it was ok for pregnant women.
When I ran across the Healthy Mama brand at Baby’s R Us
recently I thought “WOW how smart is that?” So being that I have no fear I
caught up with Rachel Katz-Galatt and asked her if I could interview her for
the blog. She is a really sweet lady and said “Of course you can interview me.”
So I asked her to
tell me about the genesis of this product. She said she was pregnant with her
first daughter and I was suffering from, well, constipation. Not something that she was comfortable talking
about but as a mom I totally got where she was coming from. She went to the
pharmacy and read the label and talked to the pharmacist and got all kinds of
conflicting information. She found out that since Medical Schools do not
mandate a course in pre natal care most doctors do not have an answer for what
is safe and what is not safe to take during pregnancy. As they were looking at products her husband
asked why is there not just a “pregnancy” section like there is a children’s
section. And that was the AHA moment for her.
Rachel started asking around and she got over the counter
medications that had been on the market for a while and then took them to the
Medical Advisory Board and OBGYN’s and Nutritionists to get a definitive answer
as to what she could put her Healthy Mama label on and have moms feel safe that
they are not going to harm their unborn child.
The next answer
naturally was where else can you find it? I found it of course at Babys R US
but you can find it on line at Babysrus.com, Bye Bye Baby her website http://healthymamabrand.com ,
Drugstore.com and Some Bed bath and Beyond Stores.
Rachel ended by saying that her goal is to humor in this
happiest time. She wanted moms to know that if it has the Healthy Mama label on
it then it is the best option for an expectant mom.
Thanks Rachel!
