Step Back in Time & Experience History – From Slavery to Freedom
North Star Underground Railroad Museum at Ausable Chasm is a hidden gem. Just a few steps away

from thundering Rainbow Falls, the museum is the first of its kind to highlight the Champlain Line of the Underground Railroad, and is part of the National Park Service Network to Freedom.  Discover the North Country’s role in helping enslaved people escape to freedom with incredibly moving multi-media exhibits. Open seven days a week from 9 am to 4 pm now through October 25. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.

The Wilder Homestead in Burke is the boyhood home of Almanzo Wilder, aka Farmer Boy, as depicted by Laura Ingalls Wilder, author of the Little House on the Prairie series. Open Monday – Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm, the homestead offers a glimpse into rural farm life, a slice of America preserved and on display. On August 23^rd, enjoy a cultural celebration that explores the French Canadian heritage of the area in the mid-19^th century with food, music, arts and crafts. Admission $4 for kids and $7 for adults.


Whistle Stops & Shoreline Hops – Explore By Land and By Water 

The North End Local Train Service between Thurman and North Creek is new this summer, offering scenic train excursions and stops in downtown North Creek and Thurman. Shop at boutiques, relax at a wine bar, enjoy a Ghost Tour, or shop for award-winning cheeses at Nettle Meadow Farm. Tickets available Friday – Sunday, through August for $11 – $18 per person.

W.W. Durant Dinner Cruise around remote Raquette Lake is a diamond in the forest, offering special themed Adirondack cruises – from beer and wine tastings, to an evening of comedy and even a Murder Mystery, Who Dunnit? Enjoy delicious meals prepared onboard by Raquette Lake Navigation’s talented chef, explore the shoreline of one of the largest and most remote lakes in the Adirondacks, and keep an eye out for the luxurious Great Camps of the Gilded Age. Tickets available for a variety of cruise options, from $7 for a moonlight cruise and $60 for a dinner cruise.


Towering Cliffs and Cascading Waterfalls – Adirondack Adventuring 

Whetsone Gulf State Park in Lowville features a three-mile long gorge that cuts into the eastern edge of

the Tug Hill Plateau, offering dramatic vistas, hiking, swimming and fishing. More than 50 campsites are available for overnight guests. Day-use admission is $7 and campsites are $15 per night.

The Tooley Pond Road Waterfalls are located in the southern end of the Adirondack Seaway Region, for an off-the-beaten-path hiking excursion ideal for families with children. Located on a seasonal road only open in the summer and early fall, hike to six cascading falls from trailheads located along the road. Trails vary in length, from 1.4 to 8.6 miles.
