Why Switch to LED Lighting?

While many people are reluctant to give up their familiar incandescent light bulbs, there are better lighting options available today.   You no longer have to choose between efficient, but ugly florescent lighting or warm but inefficient incandescent light bulbs.  With the recent price drop for LED bulbs (less than $5!), many people are switching to LED lights for homes and businesses.

What makes LED lights the best lighting option?
What are the benefits of LED Lighting? LED lights are cheaper to operate than incandescent bulbs and offer the high-quality, warm light that fluorescent light bulbs cannot.

How much money can you save with a LED lighting system?
According to the US Energy Information Administration, the average home has between 50-100 light bulbs and the average daily hour of usage per lamp is 1.5 hours.  This accounts for the fact that a
hallway light might only be turned on infrequently, while kitchen, bathroom, and outdoor lights receive frequent usage.

Let’s say you live in California, have 60 light bulbs in your home and for simplicity, they are all 60 watt bulbs.  If you switch all the light bulbs in your home from incandescent to LED, you can save up to $271 a year on your energy bill, without changing your light use habits at all.

If you are a business owner who has many lights on for more than 10 hours a day, you can easily save $500 or more a year by switching from incandescent to LED.

LED light bulbs last around 25 years, so they are almost a one-time investment.  They also do not "burn out" like incandescent bulbs; they will start to operate at less efficiency after 20-25 years.  At that point, you can replace them gradually if you like.

If you have not shopped for LED light bulbs in a while, you will be pleasantly surprised.  Many hardware stores are selling 60 watt equivalent LED light bulbs for less than $5.

LED Light is Bright and Attractive
Unlike fluorescent lights, LEDs come in soft white and warm white light options that are closer to incandescent lights without the wasted energy.

Many homeowners are choosing LED lights, especially for recessed lighting.  LED recessed lighting is popular because LED lights retain their color perfectly when dimmed. Incandescent bulbs have a tendency to yellow as they are dimmed, while LED lights stay white.  Another benefit of LED recessed lighting is that LED light bulbs last 25 years or more, so they are perfect for hard to reach lights.

With the low cost of LED light bulbs and the yearly electricity savings, the financial benefits of LED lighting are undeniable.  Their long life span and high-quality light color make them the easy to live with option for homeowners.  It is easy to see why so many people are choosing LED lights for homes and businesses.
