Why do Our Kids Love Cars So Much

You may despise being stuck in long traffic jams on your way to work, struggling to find that last spot in the car park, or trying to avoid running over hoards of kids on the school run. But our children absolutely love everything about cars. Toddlers will spend hours lining them up on the floor. Preschoolers will drive them up and down every cabinet you own. Elementary kids will drive around in their go karts teens will beg until they’re blue for driving lessons.

Why are kids so passionate about kids when they must be able to see how driving drives you mad? Nobody really knows, but they do, and there is no stopping them once they get the bug for all things cars. You may buy them dozens of toy cars and even models of ones they may see on the road in real life, like Eddie Stobart lorries. Some go by themselves, some need a push, and some are remote controlled. Then there are the Scalextric sets that will keep them quiet for hours.

None of this comes cheaply, but the joy on their faces when they get a new car more than makes up for a little financial sacrifice! Our kids will draw cars, make cardboard box cars, and even run around pretending to be cars. There are movies about talking cars and TV shows with cars for children as well. Of course, when they grow up, some kids are buying real cars too. Classic cars in particular are a big draw for car enthusiasts. Others like luxury cars or sports cars to drive.

Some theme parks, like Legoland, give kids an opportunity to learn about road safety from a very
young age. They can take a kiddy driving test in the cars, and have their photo taken driving around a simulated road network. These are very popular and also quite expensive, but make a wonderful day out for children. Go karts and bumper cars at theme parks are also a huge draw for children that can’t wait to have a go at driving a car.

Some parents enjoy spending time building karts and cars with their children. It is a great activity for quality parent-child bonding. Older children like to race their cars or karts with their friends and have pretend rallies. There may be some safety issues with this kind of activity. You may be interested to invest in some safety equipment like cycle helmets and knee pads. It may also be best to have a responsible adult supervise some of these competitions.

Wherever your child’s passions lie, it is quite likely at some point in their lives they will have an interest in cars. Whether they are playing with toy ones on the floor or controlling them from the comfort of their sofa, children absolutely love them. There are hundreds of app and console car games for them to choose from too. Of course, if they like to collect toys, you may need to invest in some extra storage!
